Seattle Seahawks: Richard Sherman Said He Wants to Stay in Seattle

Richard Sherman is suddenly taking the trade rumors more seriously after laughing it off last week.

Sherman thought the idea of getting traded was amusing at first, but 710 ESPN's Gee Scott said he has spoken with Sherman after Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll confirmed they have received calls from teams interested in acquiring the cornerback.

Well, Sherman is not laughing now and he told Scott he doesn't want to leave Seattle.

"I wouldn't want to leave this city and my guys, but I understand it's a business and organizational philosophies change," Sherman said, according to 710 ESPN.

Sherman can relax a bit because a trade is still highly unlikely, though. However, it's strange to see the Seahawks put one of their franchise cornerstones in an uncomfortable spot.

Carroll could have denied they were entertaining calls for Sherman and say they were not even considering trading him since he's such a vital part of the team. Instead, he said the team has to be "open for everything" if they want to stay competitive. Schneider didn't shoot down the rumors either and he said they were going to listen to everything.

Why are they making those statements? Well, FanRag Sports' John McMullen actually has a very good explanation.

"What's really going on here is rather obvious, and the front office is sending a message to Sherman after the veteran left the reservation at times last season," McMullen said in his report.

"That kind of behavior is not going to be tolerated again in 2017 and recruiting teams to call and ask about Sherman's availability is the organization's way of laying a Dwayne Johnson-like 'Smackdown' on Sherman," he continued.

Sherman did get into confrontations with defensive coordinator Kris Richard and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell last season and the Seahawks don't want to see him do that again this season.
