Seattle Seahawks NFL Trade Rumors: Seahawks Reportedly Willing to Trade Richard Sherman
The National Football League (NFL) offseason has been relatively uneventful as far as the trade market is concerned. Sure, the New England Patriots made a huge move by acquiring Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints, but there hasn't been any shocker since the Houston Texans dumped Brock Osweiler and his bloated contract on the Cleveland Browns last week.
Well, former National Football League (NFL) executive Michael Lombardi has some interesting things to say about the Seattle Seahawks and one of their top players on his "The Ringer" podcast, and if it's true it can potentially shake things up.
Based on what he has heard around the league, Lombardi said he really believes that the Seahawks are open to the idea of trading star cornerback Richard Sherman "for the right deal."
"In Seattle's scheme, the corner is really not the most important player in the scheme," Lombardi said on the podcast. "I think Seattle really thought twice about paying Richard Sherman. They felt they had to when they won the Super Bowl. Now their cap's kind of a mess and they need to fix it. So I think the reason they need to fix it is because they put all that money in the corner position in a defense where we feel like you can draft players to fit that scheme," he continued.
Based on what Lombardi said, teams interested in Sherman will probably have to give up a lot to acquire the cornerback. The Saints are currently targeting Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler, but Sherman is also the type of player they will probably keep their eyes on if he's available.
Meanwhile, ESPN's Benjamin Allbright has reported that the Seahawks are not really shopping Sherman around the league, but they are willing to listen to offers.
Of course, a trade involving Sherman may not happen at all, but a lot of teams probably have him on their radar right now.
