See How This Mother Sent a Surprise Christmas Gift to Her Family Two Years After Her Death (VIDEO)
Brenda Schmitz was 46 when she died from ovarian cancer in September 2011, and a month earlier she planned one last Christmas gift for her husband David and four children. Last week, two years after her death, they received that gift.
Before her death, she told David she wanted him to find love again, a wife to him and mother to their four children. In secret, she then instructed a friend to anonymously send a letter to Des Moines, Iowa radio station KSTZ Star 102.5 when David finds that special woman. Every year, the station grants Christmas wishes that listeners mail in.
David recently got engaged, and the letter was sent on its way.

Last week, KSTZ had David come in to surprise him with Brenda's gift. He begins to tell their story, and the love and loss he still feels are palpable. A radio host then reads Brenda's devastating letter, which asks the station to grant three wishes:
- A day of pampering for David's new love, Jane, to "make her smile and know her efforts are truly appreciated from me," as the letter read. "Thank you - I love you - whoever you are," Brenda tells Jane.
- A "magical trip" for the family to "create those memories that will be with them forever."
- A night out for the doctors and nurses that treated her at Mercy Hospital "full of drinks, food and fun for all they do everyday for the cancer patients they encounter.
With the help of local businesses, KSTZ is making these wishes come true, including a four-day trip to Disney World for the new family of eight, which includes Jane's two children.
