Selena Gomez Blasts Instagram Bully for 'Absurd' Cancer Comment (PHOTO)
Selena Gomez was recently hailed for calling out a bully on social networking site Instagram.
The "Come & Get It" singer, 21, openly blasted one of her 10 million Instagram followers on Saturday for writing an offensive statement in the comments section of one of her photos. The follower reportedly wrote that Gomez should "burn in hell with cancer," which prompted the pop star to respond.
"Honestly, I don't speak up much because it's simply *always* taken out of context. But I don't take bullying well. I have seen too much to not say anything," Gomez captioned alongside the photo of her response to the follower.
The statement read as follows: "The comment you left about cancer was absurd. How distasteful of [a] young woman. I have gone through that battle with fans and family members. You can dislike someone but to wish something that could happen to you or your family is uncalled for sweetheart. You won't be winning 'anyone's' heart that way. Trust me. Educate yourself a tad more. God bless love. Be an amazing woman. You're beautiful."
Gomez's direct and mature response garnered close to half a million likes and many of her fans applauded her for taking a stand to bullying.
The former Disney star has reportedly had a difficult week following yet another split from Justin Bieber, 20.
The on-and-off couple split in April after a reported fight at Coachella but reconciled a few weeks later however in recent days Bieber has been photographed spending time with other women, which has raised doubts about their relationship.
Gomez's friends are reportedly trying to help her forget about the drama surrounding her love life by planning a lavish birthday party for her.
The actress will celebrate her 22nd birthday on July 22 at a private estate in California and insiders claim Bieber is not welcome.
"No one wants [the Biebs] to go. All her friends want him out of the picture and just want her to have a relaxing birthday with no trouble and they think he's going to dominate her attention," a source told E! News.
