Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber 2014: Singers Being Back Together Speculated as Reason for Firing of Manager Parents
Selena Gomez reportedly fired her parents last month in a bid to take control of her career.
The "Come & Get It" singer, 21, axed her mother Mandy and stepfather Brian Teefey as her managers in March as insiders claim she wants more experienced management to take her career in a new direction. Gomez's parents reportedly began managing her career during her Disney days and while they are said to be unhappy about her decision, they ultimately have no say in the matter, according to TMZ.
While the move could in fact help boost Gomez's career, critics are speculating whether Gomez's on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber had anything to do with the decision to fire her parents.
In January, the former Disney star voluntarily checked into rehab for personal reasons and her parents reportedly blame her tumultuous relationship with Bieber, 20, for her problems. The pair, who began dating in 2011 before splitting up last year, reconciled in recent months and Mandy and Brian do not approve.
"It's definitely against her parents wishes," one source told Radar Online about Gomez's reunion with Bieber.
"But they don't have any control over her. She's pulling the, 'Who makes the money around here?' card! It's a s--- show behind-the-scenes," the insider revealed.
Prior to entering rehab Gomez was forced to cancel the Australian leg of her Stars Dance Tour in December. Some fans fear that associating with Bieber, who has been mired in controversy due to impending legal woes and erratic behavior in recent months, may lead her on a downward spiral.
Insiders claim Gomez's parents are not the only ones objecting to her romance with Bieber. Pop star Taylor Swift, who has been best friends with Gomez for several years, is said to be annoyed.
"Taylor hates him. She thinks Selena makes a mistake every time she reconciles with him," a source previously told Us magazine. "Bieber has really come between the girls."
