Selena Gomez Rehab Stay for Exhaustion, Star Says
Actress-singer Selena Gomez checked into rehab last month but not for drug or alcohol abuse like she did previously. Instead, Gomez reportedly checked into rehab for issues related to exhaustion and to focus a little more on herself.
"Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse," a representative told Radar Online.
She spent two weeks at the Arizona facility during January, reportedly dealing with emotional issues. The stay followed the announcement from Gomez that she was canceling the Australian leg of her 13-concert tour.
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," she said at the time. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
Gomez may have been trying to cope with the breakup from longtime boyfriend Justin Bieber, whose own behavior has gotten somewhat out of control and turned illegal. The two were the darling couple of Hollywood, but things just did not work out between them and they separated.
It could have also been related to her suffering from Lupus, which many believe she has. Lupus can cause flare-ups if triggered by situations involving extreme stress.
"Selena has been going full-throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now," a source told the website Popdust. "She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."
Gomez has not commented on the Lupus rumors but instead has chosen to remain silent and continue doing what she's doing. Before the rehab stay, Gomez offered thanks for "the future, for release, and to finally be happy for those I loved."
