Selena Gomez Stalker Released, Charges Dismissed Despite Actress Having 'Extreme Fear'
The man who was accused of stalking Selena Gomez was set free on Wednesday, much to the objection of the district attorney.
The judge did not feel that Thomas Broadnicki, 46, posed a threat to Gomez.
According to the Associated Press, the district attorney’s spokesperson Sandi Gibbons said: “We strenuously objected” to the dismissal.
Superior Court Judge Edmund Willcox Clarke, Jr., ruled Broadnicki did not have “the intent to cause fear.”
Broadnicki has a history of mental illness and was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
He was arrested in October on charges for stalking Justin Bieber’s girlfriend during the months of July and August in 2011.
A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 23 to determine if the current restraining order will conclude or be extended for another three years. Currently, there is an order requiring Broadnicki to stay at least 100 yards away from Gomez.
Gomez was not present at her hearing where prosecutors argued that Broadnicki stay in custody, because he caused anxiety and “extreme fear” for Gomez, which she stated in a sworn declaration, according to the Associated Press.
According to the Washington Post, the district attorney’s office is considering other options. One of the options available is to re-file the complaint.
Gomez came to fame when Disney discovered her in a nation-wide talent search. She had a leading role in the hit Disney show, “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Her fame and exposure increased after releasing two gold-certified albums that have sold more than a million albums worldwide.
She is also an enthusiastic humanitarian, being named the youngest UNICEF ambassador at 17, in August 2009.
