Seven TX Residents Shot Dead Amongst Unwrapped Christmas Gifts
Seven people were found shot and dead in a Grapevine, Texas apartment yesterday amongst their unwrapped Christmas gifts.
Police officers in the local area reportedly received a silent call from someone who dialed 911 on Sunday morning. When the officers and fellow firefighters arrived at the apartment after 11:30 a.m. local time, they discovered the bodies of four women and three men. Police said that three of the deceased individuals were "young adults" and that the other four were middle-aged.
A pair of handguns was also found near the bodies in the apartment. Police believe that the gunman who committed this crime is among the dead.
There is currently no search for the alleged suspect, since this appears to be a murder-suicide.
Sergeant Robert Eberling, the spokesman for the police department, said it appeared that the victims had opened their presents and were gathering up the wrapping paper when the shooting spree occurred.
Sergeant Eberling noted that there seemed to be no sign of forced entry or struggle. Police said no neighbors reported hearing anything on the quiet Christmas morning.
"We believe that the 911 call originated from the land line in the apartment," Sergeant Eberling continued. "We’re wondering if one of the victims had called but wasn’t able to speak on the phone. It was just silence on the other end."
The police sergeant also spoke on the apartment complex. Its location lies on Hall-Johnson Road in Grapevine, just west of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
"This was a higher-end apartment complex, a nice community where you rarely have any issues here that we would have to respond to," Sergeant Eberling stated. The police said they had no history of responding to any calls from that particular apartment complex.
He said the crime scene was “gruesome” and that it was the most terrible outburst of gun violence Grapevine has ever seen, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Sergeant Eberling noted that this was the first homicide to occur in Grapevine since 2010. A double killing took place in the neighborhood on June 20, Father’s Day.
