'Shadowhunters' Season 3 News: Premiere Date Revealed; Series to Get 10 More Episodes
Freeform has announced the release date for "Shadowhunters" season 3, and it might not be good news for fans.
According to reports, executive producers and cast members of the show announced during the recent New York Comic Con (NYCC) panel that season 3 will officially premiere on April 2018. They offered a first look at the upcoming installment as well, hinting at more intimate moments featuring Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood). Although their scene might just be a dream sequence, a new threat will certainly be introduced in the story.
New faces will also be seen in the third season. "Hamilton" star Javier Muñoz and "Arrow" actress Anna Hopkins will both guest star as enemies of the Shadowhunters crew. Muñoz will play Magnus' (Harry Shum Jr.) warlock rival, while Hopkins will take on the role of this season's Big Bad. Since Muñoz could not attend the panel, he sent a special video telling fans how he is looking forward to joining the fantasy series.

During the event, it was announced that "Shadowhunters" scored 10 more episodes for its upcoming season. This move proves Freeform is showing early confidence in the program, which is based on "The Mortal Instruments" book.
News of the 10-episode pickup comes just days after the network renewed "The Bold Type" for a two-season order. Both series join Freeform's list of scripted originals that include "Beyond," "The Fosters," "Famous in Love" and "Young & Hungry."
Last month, EP Todd Slavkin teased there will be "plenty" of Magnus and Alec (Matthew Daddario) moments on the new season.
"It's a beautiful thing as we move forward into Season 3," Slavkin said in a different interview. "We're exploring the intimacy and domesticity and pushing that relationship farther along with added complications."
The third season of "Shadowhunters" premieres Tuesday, April 3, at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
