'Shameless' Season 5 Release Date: Dermott Mulroney to Join Cast in New Season
It has been reported that season 5 of "Shameless", which is set to premiere sometime in 2015, will see a new love interest for Emmy Rossum's character Fiona.
Dermot Mulroney has been cast for a season long-arc on the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mulroney, who was last seen in "Crisis," will play recovering addict Sean Pierce, who happens to be Fiona's new manager at Patsy's Pies. Their seemingly innocent relationship will apparently grow flirtatious, and it could definitely lead to something more for both of them.
Mulroney will be joining former series regular Justin Chatwin on the upcoming season. It can be recalled that Chatwin's character, Jimmy, made a surprising return in the season 4 finale. In season three, Fiona thought that Jimmy was dead, and now he's back and calls himself Jack.
In other news, the cast of "Shameless" was on hand for the 2014 Emmy Awards, and the show garnered three nominations in the comedy category after being moved from the dramatic category, which included a Best Actor nomination for William H. Macy.
TV academy's senior vice president of awards John Leverence said that the move was a historic one, since this was the first drama to comedy swap since the rule allowing shifts was enacted in 2009, reported. The Hollywood Reporter.
"We have always thought of it as a comedy, and as the series unspooled, it became clearer," executive producer John Wells said. "A show like 'True Detective' is definitely a drama. Ours is a comedy with dramatic elements. We want the show to be judged as such."
"Shameless" Season 5 is slated to premiere on Showtime in 2015.
