'Sharknado 2' Confirmed by Syfy Channel, Looks to Land Johnny Depp for Lead Role
The Syfy network is making a follow up to their whacky horror thriller "Sharknado" after millions of people took to Twitter and online to express the absurdity and craziness of the film.
Perhaps one of the craziest premises for a movie somehow became a hit due to how over-the-top it was. The movie plot is exactly what the name implies: a tornado filled with sharks. The sharks were swept up by a big storm that hit Los Angeles, and now a group of people are battling their way through the city of flying sharks.
"Sharknado 2" is slated for a 2014 release, and is to take place in New York City, reported Hollywood Reporter. The director wants to nab Matt Lindelof and Johnny Depp to be the stars for their sequel. Part one's biggest star was Tara Reid.

The movie premiered last week on the cable network and was one of the most talked about things on Twitter for the next few days as it was able to draw in around 604,000 Tweets. The success of the movie on social media made the decision for a sequel a no brainer and, The Asylum, the company behind the movie, is allowing Twitter users to name the movie.
"Fans will be able to tweet their subtitle to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado. The network will select the best submission as the sequel's subtitle," said Hollywood Reporter.
"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm -- on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year," said Thomas Vitale, Syfy executive vp of programming and original movies.
"Sharknado" is not the only low budget so bad it's funny and great movie about sharks. Recent ventures into the killer fish genre have been: "Two-Headed Shark" (2012), "Sand Sharks" (2011), "Shark Night 3D" (2011), "Sharktopus" (2010), "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" (2009), and "Piranha 3D" (2010), for all the non shark enthusiasts.
