'Sharknado 2' Filming Complete, 'Sharknado 3' Announced for 2015
Sci-Fi enthusiasts that can't get enough "Sharknado" will be pleased to know that a third installment is coming in 2015.
Syfy network and The Asylum announced earlier this week that another city will be terrorized by the flying shark natural disaster sometime next year. There is no word on what city it will be at this time, but the release date information was confirmed. Producers announced the third installment through Twitter.
Sharknado 2 filming should be complete as the sequel will premiere on the Syfy network on July 30. Thanks to the social media craze created by the first movie, this silly story about sharks eating their way through a city has become a franchise.
"Sharknado was an extraordinary 'perfect storm' which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe," said Thomas Vital, Syfy's chief of programming and original features back in January.
The first Sharknado took place in Los Angeles and the second one will be in New York. The sequel, known as "Sharknado: The Second One" began filming in the beginning of this year and features scenes that take place in many of the city's most known areas including Times Square and the Statue of Liberty.
It stars Ian Ziering, Vivica A. Fox and Mark McGrath. There is no word on who will return for the third movie. Fans will have to wait and see who survives the New York massacre to have an idea.
The plot of Sharknado involves a tornado made up of hungry sharks that are being propelled into buildings and other things. Once they come in contact with an object, they immediately eat through it causing loads of destruction in surrounding areas. It is an extremely hokey concept that seemed to catch fire thanks to social media.
