Shepherd's Best Friend: This Super Cute Video Shows Border Collies Herding Sheep
Despite all the talk of shepherds in the Bible, we don't often imagine what the actual task of herding sheep looked like. Well, thanks to this video of a sheep herding demonstration in Ireland, imagination isn't necessary.
The fun part of this demonstration is that it focuses on the intelligent and terribly cute work of the Border Collie. Through a series of short whistles and commands, the shepherd can direct the dogs to gather a scattered herd to one spot. And the Collies seem to love every second.
(Fun Fact: Did you know that sheepdogs are mentioned in the Bible? I could only find one place, in Job 30:1, in which Job laments, "But now they laugh at me, men who are younger than I, whose fathers I would have disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.")
The demonstration video is 15 minutes long, so I set up a two-and-a-half-minute section for you to watch. But you can move the time indicator to any spot you want, too. Really, YouTube – thanks.
