'Sherlock' 2015 Special Titled 'The Abominable Bride' And Season 4 To Be Hilarious But Dark

Sherlock returns for the Christmas 2015 Special on January 1, 2016 on BBC One and in some cinemas in the United Kingdom. The Christmas special has been titled "The Abominable Bride."

Fan favourites Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return as the lovable detective duo, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, to solve the case of the "The Abominable Bride," which will be airing on New Year's Day.

Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, writers of "Sherlock" series, spoke about the episode at the London Comic Con.

Gatiss said that the story of this Christmas Special "is mostly an original story, inspired by a reference in one of the [Doyle] stories to one of the ones that Dr Watson never wrote about."

And what should viewers expect in this period story? The episode's story is taken from a classic horror-gothic Doyle story, "The Adventure Of The Musgrave Ritual," which is a tale of puzzles concerning a hidden treasure and, of course, murder. It's a story well-chosen as it is perfect read for a cozy winter's day.

So viewers can expect, as told by Sherlock Holmes, "Here's the record of the Tarleton murders and the case of Vamberry, the wine merchant, and the adventure of the old Russian woman, and the singular affair of the aluminium crutch, as well as a full account of Ricoletti of the club foot and his abominable wife."

The cast of the Christmas Special includes Misfits' Natasha O'Keeffe, based on the news that an image of her has surfaced and depicts her wearing a floral bridal headdress on the Bristol set where some parts of the special were shot.

Apart from regulars Amanda Abbington as Mary Watson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Jonathan Aris as Anderson, the new cast members are Tim McInnerny as Sir Edwin, Stephanie Hyam as Jane, and David Nellist will return as Mike Stamford, a mutual friend who had initially introduced Watson to Sherlock.

Viewers have also been patiently waiting for Season 4 of the show. There has been no news about it regarding announcement of release date, story lines, etc. But Moffat has said that Season 4 will have the theme of "consequences," in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said, "[Season 4] is going to be... I suppose you'd say... consequences. It's consequences. Chickens come to roost. It's dark in some ways—obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that—but there's a sense of... things... coming back to bite you. It's not a safe, sensible way to live. It's hilarious and exhilarating some days, but some days it's going to be bloody frightening."

Fans have been up to a lot of speculations as to what will happen in Season 4, whose filming is rumored to start in the beginning of 2016. These speculations include Mary Watson's death, among other rumors.

Till more announcements are made, viewers are eagerly waiting for Sherlock's Victorian adventure in "The Abominable Bride."
