'Sherlock' Season 3 US Release Date Revealed

PBS' hit show "Sherlock" is set to return for a third season, delighting many fans. The show will return this winter, on PBS's "Masterpiece." The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson. Those involved with the show are very excited and believe fans will enjoy what they have in store for the third season. To see what the third season has up its sleeve, read on, but be cautious of spoilers.

Entertainment Weekly learned that "Sherlock" will return to PBS on Jan. 19 at 10pm in an exclusive with show workers. The "Masterpiece" executive producter Rebecca Eaton spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the season three episodes.

"They're fantastic. They are jaw dropping. They are like small movies. Benedict and Martin are so in their Sherlock-Watson groove. They are so comfortable with that relationship it's like being in the room with them," Eaton said.

"Sherlock" executive producer Sue Vertue also expressed how excited she was for the coming season in a statement.

"We are hugely excited about this next series of 'Sherlock' and have worked closely with our partners, Masterpiece and PBS, to bring these episodes to U.S. audiences in January. We promise our fans that Season 3 is worth waiting for," Vertue said.

PBS chief of programing Beth Hoppe also released a statement expressing the network's support for "Sherlock." She also discussed how scheduling the show with popular show "Downton Abbey" will be beneficial for the network.

"We love that Sherlock fans are so passionate and eager to see Season 3. The pairing of 'Downton Abbey' and 'Sherlock' in January offers a blockbuster night of British drama only on PBS stations," she said.
