'Sherlock' Season 4 Premiere Date, News: Steven Moffat Announced Clandestine Series to Begin Filming in 2016
BBC's highly-rated and highly-anticipated crime drama TV series "Sherlock" is now scheduled to begin filming for its fourth season in spring 2016.
A report from Digital Spy UK cited series co-creator Steven Moffat confirming the news during the BAFTA winners press conference, which happened over the weekend.
He discussed the progress of the upcoming chapter of the Sir Conan Doyle fiction-inspired TV show. Moffat also mentioned that Season 4 won't commence its production this year and it has now been pushed to spring 2016.

Given the timeframe, it appears that fans won't be seeing the beloved sleuth, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his trusty partner, Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman), until late 2016 or even the early parts of 2017.
As to what the next series will entail, Moffat previously told DS that it will further leave fans "desperate" for Season 5.
"[Series four] is going to be... I suppose you'd say... consequences. It's consequences. Chickens come to roost," Moffat told Entertainment Weekly (via DS). "It's dark in some ways - obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you."
"It's going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times," he added.
Fans, however, won't have to wait that long for more adventures in Baker Street as later this year, there will be a one-off Sherlock Victorian holiday special which will air in a yet to be announced date.
According to earlier reports, the 90-minute episode will exists in "its own little bubble" which means that it will be completely separate from the plot of the main series.
