'Sherlock' Season 5: Everyone Willing to Do More, but 2018 Premiere Impossible

"Sherlock" season 5 is not confirmed yet so fans are using the time of waiting to campaign for the renewal of the hit BBC One series.

The decision will ultimately fall on the network since creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, as well as series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, are all willing to do more sleuthing.

Hot on the heels of the conclusion of the fourth season, the abovementioned crew all expressed interest in making "Sherlock" season 5.

Cumberbatch went so far as to say that it is ridiculous to think the show will not be back on the small screen although he did warn that should there be another season, it will not arrive anytime soon.

"We love doing the show and all I'll say about it is that we're all very busy," the actor told Associated Press as quoted by The Independent.

"For now, it's not going to happen again at the same regularity that it has been happening," the "Doctor Strange" actor emphasized.

When it comes to the chances of renewal, Moffat is pretty confident that BBC will ask for "Sherlock" season 5 to happen. "The ratings were extremely good so I guess they'll ask us again," he told Broadcast Now.

The challenge, as usual, is bringing Cumberbatch and Freeman together. The two men's busy schedules are what led to the fourth season's delay.

It is looking like this will be the case in "Sherlock" season 5. With that said, if the show will be back, it will not happen in 2018.

"And then we'll have to see first of all if we have three films we want to make, and then if Benedict and Martin have the time, schedule and inclination," Moffat explained.

It will be interesting to see what stories will be told in "Sherlock" season 5 especially since the fourth season gave off some vibes of irrevocable finality.

Moffat and Gatiss did say in the past that the series might take on stories that took place way before the events of the first season to show how Sherlock and Watson were like before all this happened.
