Sheryl Sandberg's Million Dollar Facebook Career

Sheryl Sandberg may be the world's next richest woman, as the chief operating officer of Facebook.

Sandberg was reported to be Mark Zuckerberg's highest paid employee, raking in more than making $30.87 million last year alone. The sum is the total of her earning and stock awards.

Sandberg is the second-in-command at the social networking giant and in line to be one of the wealthiest self-made women in the world since has Facebook goes public. The chief operating officer is also one of the few women who works at the company.

Sandberg encouraged other women to go for the higher paid positions at their jobs.

"One hundred and ninety heads of state; nine are women. Of all the people in parliament in the world, 13% are women. In the corporate sector, women at the top, C-level jobs, board seats, tops out at 15-16%. The numbers have not moved since 2002 and are going in the wrong direction," she told an audience at TED in Washington, D.C.

Sandberg studied economics at Harvard, where she was picked up by Lawrence Summers, the former U.S. Treasury Secretary, who was president of Facebook while Zuckerberg was still in college.

Sandberg followed Summers to World Bank and eventually moved to Google until she was scouted by Zuckerberg in 2008.

Despite her savvy career move, however, last year Sandburg spoke to an audience and said that her most important career move was her husband. "The most important career choice you'll make is who you marry," she said.

Sandburg is married to David Goldberg, chief executive officer of Survey Monkey. The couple has two children.

Sandberg is held most responsible for the Facebook's high profit turnover, According to the Inquisitr,

"Before Sandberg's arrival, the company was 'primarily interested in building a really cool site; profits, they assumed, would follow,'" reads the site. "Sandberg pioneered the discreet presentation of Facebook adverts and oversaw the firm's business operations. By 2010, Facebook was turning profits in the millions."
