Shocking twist in this season of 'Are You the One?'

MTV's dating series "Are You The One?" is as the name suggests — young adults wanting to find their true love in a reality series. Beautiful women and handsome men — 10 each — are made to spend time with each other. In the course of the season, amid flirting, getting intimate, betrayals, and promises, one pair does manage to find true love. At the end is a $1 million cash prize waiting for the true lovers. It sounds easy, but we can say that season 3 of "Are You The One?" is anything but that.

The 20 young adults may all look gorgeous, but their thoughts are very different. This is what will create the tensions in the series. The viewers have plenty of videos to watch from that they can come to know about the personality traits of the contestants. Some have posted Instagram photos, some have tweeted, and some have spoken out plainly.

The girls come up as forthright and frank. Britni describes herself as a passionate person and said that she loves someone who's passionate but who is also able to "let loose." "I am definitely wild at heart and you got to be on that same level with me," she said.

Chelsey was more frank. She admitted that it's important for her and her partner to "have a good sex life." At the same time, her partner should be family oriented and have a goal in life.

The guys this time seemed to be talking more in terms of family. Nelson wants to be in a "team" with his partner with whom he can have a family. Alec wants a woman who holds her own but also gels with his family. Viewers can note that the guys think of "family" a lot.

Hunter talks about respect and trust. He says, "If I can't trust you, then what do we have? We have nothing."
The trailer of Are You The One? shows a lot of romantic moments — lots of kisses, hand-holding — but also has moments of high tension, like the contestants fighting, crying, and even chair throwing. One male contestant shoves the other, another walks out. A female contestant cries, "They think it's just a game, but for me, it's not!"

The upcoming season of Are You The One? set in picturesque Hawaii will have even more shocks. Apparently, the creators have ramped up this season's twist. If the contestants fail to make at least one true match during each matchup ceremony, the consequence will be a "blackout" resulting in a loss of $250,000. Chalk up four blackouts and you don't get the grand prize.

Season 3 of Are You The One? premieres on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 11 p.m. EDT on MTV
