Should Christians celebrate Halloween? 5 reactions
Vladimir Savchuk
Modern Halloween is irredeemable, according to Vladimir Savchuk, the lead pastor of HungryGen Church. In an October 2023 article titled "8 Reasons Why Christians Should Rethink Celebrating Halloween," the ministry leader stressed that the current version of the holiday focuses too much on witchcraft and paganism.
“We see that there are things that the Lord allowed the Israelites to redeem and repackage for His purpose, like cities and buildings, but that isn’t the case with this holiday. It continues to promote darkness, paganism and fear,” Savchuk wrote.
The pastor also raised objections to certain activities on Halloween that he believes dishonor the Lord, such as dressing as demons or witches and attending parties where attendees drink or do drugs. Savchuk asserted that people who consider themselves Christian shouldn't engage in these types of behaviors.
When most people think of Halloween, they imagine wearing a costume and pretending to be someone else; however, Savchuk stressed that Scripture doesn't support this action.
“In the beginning, Satan tried to confuse Adam about who he was and tried to make Him believe he could be like God,” the pastor wrote. “Satan also tried to cast doubt on Jesus’ identity in the wilderness.”
Savchuk concluded that Christians shouldn't celebrate Halloween and they should advocate for their fellow believers to refrain from participating.
