Simon Cowell 'Born to be a Dad,' He Says
Simon Cowell is basking in the glow of fatherhood, and the man who never expected to be a father now says that he was "born to be a dad." He is the father of son Eric, his first child with girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
"Phone rings at half past five in the morning," Cowell told Terri Seymour in an "Extra" interview. "So we had to find a flight, which we did, and I got there with two hours to spare," he said of his son's birth. "I held him within five minutes of him being born."
"I actually said to Lauren beforehand, 'What if I like the dogs more than him?' And she said, 'You're gonna be absolutely fine.' And then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it! I was born to be a dad" Cowell said.
Now that Cowell is a father, he's thinking of things a bit more differently and is making an effort to reconnect with members of his family.
"I look at him, Eric, and I think of my dad all the time, so it's a really good thing. I think [his mother, Julie] told the whole village. She's really excited," he said.
It's a change from just a few months ago, when Cowell admitted he wasn't "brilliant with babies."
"I never know what to do," he told Parade. "But once he's older, I think I'll be a good dad in terms of advice. And then I'll get to do all the things I want to do, like go to Disneyland or Universal Studios, teach him how to drive – I love all that."
Cowell said that he "wouldn't rule out" having more children and noted that he enjoyed having a brother when he was growing up, so he thinks "it's cool to have two or three … two."
The family is currently visiting Cowell's mother, Julie, in London.
