Simon Cowell Break In: Bloody Woman in Bathroom Wielding Brick
Simon Cowell left his premises in fear after seeing a "disturbed and frenzied" woman angrily threatening him from the roof next to his window Saturday. The eventual intruder, armed with only a bloody brick held high above her head, was arrested and remains in custody.
Simon Cowell's $14 million (9 million British pounds) home was broken into by the assailant, Leanne Zaloumis, 29, who smashed a window, climbed in, and was found on a shelf 7 feet off the ground in the music mogul's walk-in closet.
Cowell was watching TV at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night when he heard a "loud bang" from his first floor bathroom, according to reports. After finding an inconsolable Zaloumis, Cowell called Scotland Yard police, who immediately sent over officers to his mansion.
Cowell later said "it was scary," according to a source. "She was smashing her way into my bathroom with a rock and wouldn't stop. Then she hid in the house," the source revealed to Daily Mail.
After a thorough search of the grounds, police finally found the burglar in Cowell's walk-in closet. The bathroom where she had broken in and the adjoining room were smeared with blood. Police found her, and took her into custody.
Zaloumis "entered, as a trespasser, a dwelling with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm upon a person therein and at the time of committing the said burglary had with you a weapon of offense, namely a broken housebrick," read Paul Mitchell, the prosecutor for her case.
Zaloumis, described as "disturbed and frenzied" by Mitchell, was charged with aggravated burglary with intent by West London Magistrates' Court.
Despite the break-in at Cowell's mansion, the former French ambassador's estate is equipped with its own security guard force, which functions 24 hours a day. At the time of the incident, they helped search the grounds for the intruder.
District Judge James Henderson commanded the deranged woman to appear again in Isleworth Crown Court June 12.
