Gavin DeGraw Injured in Hospital With Concussion, Broken Nose Following Assault
Singer Gavin DeGraw has been hospitalized this week after suffering a concussion and a broken nose when he was attacked by three men and hit by a car.
The assault took place in New York’s East Village early on Monday, however, reports are as yet hazy as to the reason for the attack. A police spokesperson reported, “The victim claims to have been struck by these individuals and taken to hospital.”
It is not clear whether DeGraw had been drinking prior to the alleged attack.
Reports are saying the singer had just left a group of friends when he was set upon by a group of three males. Soon after the attack took place he was also hit by a taxi car.
DeGraw was set to perform on Tuesday as the opening act for rock bands Train and Maroon 5's U.S. tour. His publicist however has reported to Reuters that he is recovering in hospital after suffering “a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises.”
He added: “We have no information yet regarding his upcoming concert dates and promotion for his new album. Gavin and his family appreciate everyone's concern at this time.”
DeGraw established himself as a pop star with his hit "I Don't Want to Be," which was used as the theme song for popular TV drama “One Tree Hill.”
For tonight's show in Saratoga Springs, NY it has been announced that DeGraw will be replaced by Nikki Jean.
Maroon 5 and Train will perform as scheduled, according to TMZ.
