'Skyrim' Switch News: Mod Support Not a Sure Thing for the Latest Edition of the Open World Title
'Skyrim' Switch edition will come with some platform-exclusive features
"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" will be released for yet another platform, the Nintendo Switch, in the near future, and it is expected to be different from its current-gen counterparts in a few ways.
For instance, while last year's "Skyrim Special Edition" finally allowed PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners to play around with mods, this is a luxury that will not be provided to Switch enthusiasts, or at least not right away.
Recently, US Gamer's Matt Kim had an opportunity to learn more about what the developers have in mind in terms of mod support for the newest "Skyrim" offering.

Speaking to Bethesda vice president for PR and marketing Pete Hines, Kim was able to learn that mod support for the newest version remains unplanned at this moment in time.
Now, with Hines indicating that mod support for the Switch is not in the works right now, it would be easy to interpret that to mean that the feature will be added eventually. However, fans may want to hold off on expecting as much.
As some gamers may remember, it took the folks over at Bethesda quite a long time to get mods just to the PS4 and it is hard to tell just how receptive the folks at Nintendo are to the idea of giving players that much freedom over a game played on their console.
On top of that, the power of the Switch will have to be taken into consideration as well, and that could be a potential stumbling block for the realization of mod support.
While mod support remains uncertain, the Switch edition will still have other features that can be appealing to players, such as exclusive items that can be obtained through tapping certain amiibos as well as motion controls.
"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" will be released for the Switch on Nov. 17.
