Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan Joins TNA Wrestling
Billy Corgan is known to many as the frontman of Smashing Pumpkins. Not a lot of people know however that he is a huge fan of professional wrestling, until recently. Corgan recently accepted a new role outside his music career – he recently joined TNA Entertainment, a professional wrestling organization, as Senior Producer of Creative and Talent Development.
According to a report in IGN, his position will give him the chance to "develop characters and create storylines" for one of TNA's flagship programs, "Impact Wrestling." The wrestling show airs on Destination America on Friday nights. He will also do the same for other shows on TNA programming.
His love of wrestling shows in his previous endeavors such as the establishment of a wrestling league in Chicago in 2011, writing a song about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, a 1980s TV show and almost getting his own wrestling reality series. Even TNA President Dixie Carter admired Corgan's "knowledge and understanding of the professional wrestling."
"He has always impressed me with his creativity and passion for our business. Billy is truly gifted and understands the emotion ties to the psychology of connecting with an audience," he said.
As for Corgan himself, his new job is "a dream come true."
"What's great is the entire TNA organization stands in full support of my music life with the Smashing Pumpkins. In return, I'm fully committed to using my 30 years of entertainment experience, along with my deep-rooted passion for pro wrestling, to take on the thrilling challenge of creatively contributing to 'Impact Wrestling,' finding and developing new talent, and working eye-to-eye with the best-of-the-best," the frontman stated.
It is not known how his new role at TNA will affect his music career. The Smashing Pumpkins is going on a U.S. Tour with Marilyn Manson this summer, according to another report in The Guardian.
