Snow White's Sister Rose Red Gets Her Own Movie?
Disney is planning a live-action, revisionist remake of the classic tale of Snow White, with her estranged sister Rose Red being developed and figuring largely in the plot. The story was pitched by Evan Daugherty with a script by Justin Merz. The film will be produced by Vinson Films, Tripp Vinson's outfit.
The script had been written as a stand-alone piece, but Daugherty came up with an interesting twist which brings the story much closer to the original. As a revisionist piece, Rose Red figures in the later part of the story when Snow White gets poisoned by the apple given to her by the evil queen in disguise. As she goes into the Sleeping Death, it is her sister, Rose Red, who goes in search of something to counteract the curse and revive Snow White, all with the help of the trusty dwarves.
Daugherty is not a stranger to Snow White's tale, having written "Snow White and the Huntsman." He has also done "Divergent" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

Meantime, this latest project is Vinson's third encounter with a fairy tale, after working on a prequel to "Aladdin," "Genies," and "Prince Charming" which is now being developed.
The character of Rose Red is found in the 17th-century tale "Snow White and Rose Red" from the Brothers Grimm, but is a totally unrelated story to the 1812 tale of "Snow White" on which Disney's classic film is based. And now these two tales are being brought together to tell the story on the ebony-haired princess' sister, Rose Red.
This may be meant to bank on the success of the latest Disney fairy tale animation, "Frozen," which is also, incidentally, a story of two sisters. The rising trend at the studio seems to be of live-action adaptations of classic animated tales featuring strong-willed women no longer having to rely on a romantic prince to rise out of adversity.
Tara Farney will be the executive producer while Adam Rodin as well as Merz will co-produce.
