Soap Actor Cocaine Bust Shocks Fans
Dylan Patton, a former actor for the hit soap opera "Days of Our Lives," was arrested and charged with selling cocaine in an undercover sting arranged by police. Patton, 20, faces up to 9 years in state prison if found guilty.
Patton was formerly charged with selling cocaine out of his home in Agoura Hills, Calif. Police heard rumors that he was dealing and decided to send in an undercover officer to try and purchase the drug. The sting was successful and Patton was immediately taken into custody.
He lived within 1,000 feet of Sumac Elementary School, which had officials concerned that he was dealing to minors. The charges were upgraded to felony counts, meaning that he could receive a harsher sentence if found guilty of the crime. He is currently still in jail, unable to pay the $30,000 bond.
Patton starred on "Days of Our Lives" for one year, playing the role of William "Will" Horton, son of Sami Brady and Lucas Horton. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy award for his portrayal of the teen struggling to deal with his family's situation, but left the show in 2010.
Chandler Massey now portrays the character, who writers decided would be the show's first gay character. His work has earned him a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series. He currently works with Alison (Ali) Sweeney and soap opera legend Deidre Hall.
Massey has a long history of acting, appearing in episodes of "One Tree Hill," "Eastbound & Down" and "Army Wives." He also had a role in the film "16-Love," which was released last year.
"Days of Our Lives" is the oldest-running soap opera, having been on the air since 1965. The show has outlasted every other NBC soap opera and has been renewed through 2014. "DOOL" is known for its sometimes outrageous storylines, including demonic possession and exorcism, but has also helped launch the careers of stars such as Alison Sweeney, who now hosts "The Biggest Loser" in addition to working on "DOOL."
