Some Digital Nintendo Switch Games Getting Limited Physical Editions
Some digital-only indie titles for the Nintendo Switch may be getting physical copies soon. This is according to Limited Run Games, a company focusing on creating limited physical editions of otherwise digital-only games.
The company announced that they recently received approval to create physical copies of otherwise digital-only titles for the hybrid console. In keeping with a truly limited release, the games will only have one production run for each game and will be focused on console exclusives.
Limited Run has not yet announced which Switch-published digital-only titles will get a physical edition. However, they did reveal that they will go into retail next year as well as emphasizing that once a game is sold out, they will no longer make anymore.

Prior to the publisher Nintendo Switch games, the company has previously only published games for PlayStation 4, Vita, and PC. On the PlayStation alone Limited Run has released nearly 100 games ranging from small indies to titles from larger studios, including Firewatch, Shadow Complex, and Rainbow Moon.
Following the announcement that they will be releasing physical copies of Nintendo Switch games, some were hopeful that they would also do the same with the Xbox One. However, this was quickly shot down by the company saying that Microsoft's minimum order quantities are too large for such limited releases.
Limited Run recently had to delay its release line up following new requirements implemented by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). With the new requirements, the company was forced to submit their games to the ESRB to be certified, a process that was previously unneeded due to the fact that the games were already rated by the board when they were released on their respective consoles.
Limited Run's announcement reveals that despite the huge success of digital releases and platforms such as Steam, gamers are still looking to get their hands on physical game copies. After all, there's nothing more satisfying for gamers than a shelf filled to the brim with game disks.
