Son's Message to Mother in Hospital Inspires Many: 'God Bless You'

A 14-year-old boy's heartwarming message for his mother has changed the lives of many. Will Hart wanted to give his mom, who was in the hospital, some encouragement and, together with his father, provided some much-needed encouragement for other patients and workers as well.

Will's mother, Shari Hart, was hospitalized for what she thought was the stomach flu. As it turned out, she actually had acute myloid leukemia, or blood cancer. Knowing that she would be in the hospital for a while, Will wanted to do something to encourage her and keep her spirits up. So he and his dad worked together to leave a message for Shari on the top of the parking lot, which was freshly covered in snow.

"When they went out at 10 o'clock, dad had the idea to write, 'God Bless You All,' but it couldn't fit, so it says, 'God Bless You,' something everybody could see," Hannah Hart, Will's sister, told WGN. "I'm sure there are so many nurses and doctors all over the building that saw it. I'm sure it made their day better. I hope it did."

"He said come to the window," Shari said. "He was so excited. I pulled up the window and it said, 'Hi mom,' with a smiley face and all. It keeps me lifted up in a way that nothing else really could, for me and others to feel better is huge."

Even though the message was erased by snowplows, it was there long enough for word to get around the hospital and for numerous people to see it and be touched.

"One of the other family members here said they had goosebumps and that night went to bed crying about how special that was," Nurse Mary Hoyt said.

People continually come up to Shari and share their stories of inspiration after seeing the message, which adds even more power to Will's simple words.

"To know that it did touch people and make them feel better means everything," the proud mother said.
