'Sons of Anarchy' Star Charlie Hunnam Cleans House Spotless to Please Girlfriend of 11 Years

Charlie Hunnam, the star of 'Sons of Anarchy,' knows how to make his girlfriend of 11 years, Morgana McNelis, happy. The actor admits that a long-term relationship needs a lot of work and he makes an effort to keep this stronger.

Hunnam revealed that before he left for the Toronto International Film Festival, where his new movie "Papillon" would be screened, he made sure that the house he shares with McNelis was spotless. He ended up cleaning the house at 5 a.m.

"I thought it'd be nice for her to come home to everything immaculate and done," the actor said. "I put flowers in the bedroom and in the kitchen, so she came home and was happy."

Hunnam also revealed that he regularly does grocery shopping and laundry when he doesn't have any work. He and McNelis enjoy sharing the chores around the house and he sometimes takes over cooking duties.

"I'm not afraid of pots and pans," Hunnam told Cosmopolitan. "My cat, George, is fascinated by it — I talk to him while he watches me cook."

Meanwhile, "Papillon" is a remake of a 1973 film that starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Hunnam shares the spotlight with Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot") in the 2017 version which has received rave reviews at the festival.

"Papillon" is a prison break story and the actor said via W Magazine that he committed to the role by staying in his jail cell for eight days with just cigarettes and without food and water. He came out of it feeling disconnected from reality and did not immediately go home to McNelis after four months of filming because he needed to recover from the experience.

Michael Noer directed the movie while Aaron Guzikowski did the screenplay. It is based on Henri Charrière's autobiography, who was convicted of murder in France in the 1930's.

"Papillon" will open in U.S. theaters on Dec. 16.
