Sony launches Xperia J1: Phantom Pain edition ahead of 'Metal Gear Solid V' release
Sony has launched a Metal Gear Solid (MGS) V-themed Xperia J1 phone just a couple of weeks ahead of the official release of the game "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain."
Game publisher Konami has teamed up with Sony to launch the special edition phone. The new Sony Xperia J1 Compact: Phantom Pain edition has the same features as those in the original Xperia J1, which was released in Japan more than a year ago, according to NDTV Gadgets.
The Xperia J1: Phantom Pain boasts of a 4.3-inch HD display with a 2.2 gigahertz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM, and 16 G of memory. It also has a 20.7-megapixel front camera, a 2.2-megapixel front camera, and 2,300 mAh battery. The special Sony smartphone sells for around $482 (JPY59,800).

The most interesting feature of Xperia J1 is the "Outer Heaven" logo seen at the phone's back. Aside from the external game-themed logo, it also has internal features based on the MGS game. Xperia J1 has two original sound tracks, one custom ringtone, and a wallpaper designed to match the overall theme, the report details.
On top of the MGS-themed internal features, a limited edition artbook is also included. Users can access the artbook through the Sony File Commander app, Tech Times reports.
The fun does not stop there because those who will purchase the special edition Xperia J1 will receive a voucher worth $8.08 (JPY1,000) that they can use to buy MGS comics.
The Xperia J1 is not the only MGS-themed gadget to be released b Sony. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, the Z4 tablet, and the NW-ZX2 and NW-A16 Walkman MP3 players also have preinstalled content and themes.
The Metal Gear Solid V game will be officially released on September 1. The MGS-themed Sony devices, unfortunately, are exclusive to Japan. Fans outside of the country who want these limited edition phones and tablets will have to import them.
