Sony Xperia Z6 News: Xperia Z6 Line-Up Of Phones Rumored To Have Five Models

If reports are true, it seems that Sony is not yet ready to throw in the towel on its low-performing mobile business. The Japanese company has recently released its latest flagship, the Xperia Z5 Premium, the first smartphone to have a 23-megapixel camera and 4K resolution. Now, rumors are already circulating that Sony is working on its next flagship phone series, the Xperia Z6. This line up of phones is said to include not just one or two phones, but is rumored to have five sub-models.

According to a report in GSM Arena, the Z6 family of smartphones will include the Xperia Z6, the Xperia Z6 Compact, the Xperia Z6 mini, the Xperia Z6 Plus and the Xperia Z6 Ultra. The main difference between the sub-models is its screen size. The Xperia Z6 is rumored to have a 5.2-inch display, while the Z6 mini will be the smallest with a 4-inch screen. The Xperia Z6 Compact will have a 4.6-inch display. The biggest in terms of display size are the Xperia Z6 Ultra with a 6.4-inch display and the Xperia Z6 Plus at 5.8 inches.

According to a report in Vine Report, a recent rumor however said the mini sub-model has been discarded and the now smallest variant (the Xperia Z6 Compact) would now be called the Xperia Z6 Lite. It is not yet clear however what its display size is, but the report said that it may be somewhere between the Xperia Z6 Compact and the standard Xperia Z6.

The GSM Arena report speculated that the line-up of new phones will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, except for the mini sub-model, which is rumored to have a Snapdragon 620 processor. Pressure sensitive technology, likened to the 3D touch of Apple, are also rumored on the Xperia Z6 and the Xperia Z6 Plus.

The rumored Z6 Lite, according to Vine Report, will have a Snapdragon 650 chipset, which is actually a rebranded version of the previous Snapdragon 618.

In terms of release dates, an earlier rumor indicated that Sony may make the reveal during the CES 2016, but since that has not happened, the next rumored date is the Mobile World Congress in March.
