South African Pastor Says Satan Made Oscar Pistorius Kill His Girlfriend
A South African pastor, who is attending Olympian Oscar Pistorius' trial for the murdering of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, believes it was Satan who made the athlete commit the act.
"Oscar did not kill [Steenkamp], Satan made him do it. I pray to God to help him," said the Rev. Isaac Malaza, according to Times Live.
"I came today to pray for Oscar. He shouldn't do something like this again that breaks the hearts of his family."
Malaza apparently hoped to pray with Pistorius and waited at the exit of North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the Olympian athlete, but did not get his chance to do so.
Pistorius, a double amputee and one of South Africa's biggest sports stars, is being charged with shooting his girlfriend, 30-year-old model Steenkamp, dead in his Pretoria house in February 2013.
The 27-year-old has denied the charges, claiming that he thought he was shooting an intruder. Steenkamp was shot four times and died from her wounds.
The trial entered its third week on Monday, CNN reported, with the South African gun dealer who sold Pistorius the gun he used to shoot his wife testifying that the athlete correctly answered a questionnaire and knew that it is not legal to shoot an unknown person seen breaking into one's home.
Pistorius' defense team will now have to prove that he made a reasonable mistake, if he is to be cleared of killing Steenkamp.
Malaza said he hopes God helps Pistorius, so that he never does something like that again.
"It's not just Oscar, a lot of men kill women. So I want God to stay in the hearts of men so they can like their women and not kill them," the pastor added.
Earlier in March, a witness testified that he saw Pistorius praying over Steenkamp's body as she lay dying.
"It was obvious that she was mortally wounded. I tried to assist her. I tried to open an airway. I went near her and as I bent down, I also noticed a man on the left, kneeling by her side. He had his left hand on her right groin, and his right hand, the second and third fingers in her mouth," radiologist Johan Stripp told the court.
"She had no breathing movements that she made. Oscar was crying all the time. He was praying to God, 'Please let her live.' Oscar said he would dedicate 'his life and her life to God' if she would live."
