'South Park' and 'Honey Boo Boo' Combine on Latest Episode
"South Park" has taken on just about every figure known to the general public, and now Alana Thompson, aka "Honey Boo Boo" is the latest target of the adult cartoon.
Alana and mother June Shannon will both appear on the episode set to air Wed., Oct. 10. According to Comedy Central, lead character Cartman "discovers he has a rival in America's sweetheart, Honey Boo Boo." The episode will focus on his coming to grips with her popularity, and of course, feature a bit of a storyline already shown on Thompson's own show.
On "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," Thompson searches for a new pet, a piglet. "South Park" creators have written that sketch into their own show, only instead of an adorable piglet, Thompson selects a "hog with pizzazz." While it may not be much of a stretch but one that fans of both shows will "redneckognize."
As "Honey Boo Boo" wraps up its first season, the nation has been shocked by its immense popularity. The series, which was originally a spin-off of TLC's "Toddlers & Tiaras" was not expected to do as well as it has. And in fact, the ratings have continually shocked TLC executives, especially after topping the Republican National Convention's ratings.
TLC recently announced that Thompson and the rest of her family will return for a second season, and because of their immense popularity will receive raises. The family had originally been low-balled by reality-TV standards, but TLC, perhaps under pressure, decided to triple the amount the Thompson-Shannon family earned per episode.
The show "has become a pop culture phenomenon," TLC's general manager Amy Winter said on the site. "What you see is what you get and we are excited to share even more of Alana and her family's unbridled hilarity, sincerity, and love with our viewers."
