Southern Baptist Churches Commemorate Sanctity of Life Month Sunday

Southern Baptist churches will commemorate Sanctity of Life month on Jan. 15. Several Kentucky Baptist-affiliated pregnancy resource centers are set to speak at these churches Sunday.

The Central Kentucky Crisis pregnancy center is one of 49 pregnancy care centers participating in Sanctity of Life this weekend.

Marcia Gilbert, director of the center, told The Christian Post that their organization will speak at Southern Baptist churches regarding the fight for pro-life, the current state of the country’s pro-life movement, and what the center does to help someone in a crisis pregnancy.

“As Christians, we believe that all life is God given and that as humans we entrust the giving and the taking of life to God himself. We don’t have the power to decide that for ourselves,” Gilbert told CP.

Gilbert went on to discuss the current state of the pro-life movement in the United States. The legality of abortion has been questioned on multiple state ballots in 2011, including Mississippi’s Personhood Amendment and New Hampshire’s new Parental Consent law.

“There is a dominant pro-life force in this country. The general consensus is that we’re getting close to overturning Roe v. Wade,” Gilbert stated.

“It’s impossible to deny that a murder is taking place,” she added, contending that even nonreligious people are seeing the immorality in abortion practices.

Sanctity of Life Sunday is a part of January’s Sanctity of Life Month. Various organizations have assembled rallies and campaigns to show their pro-life support.

As The Christian Post previously reported, The Family Research Council launched a Sanctity of Life Month campaign, called “I’m Pro-Life because…," at the start of the new year.

The FRC is collecting sonogram images sent in from pro-lifers around the country to convey the message that human life is important from conception until death.

Another important pro-life rally coming up is the March for Life, taking place in Washington, D.C., on Jan 22. Hundreds of thousands will gather at the country’s capital to march for the sanctity of life. The Family Research Council will also host guest speaker Lila Rose, who will share her experiences working undercover at Planned Parenthood.

The Kentucky Right to Life association is also sponsoring several pro-life events in celebration of Sanctity of Life month.

Two Rallies for Life will be held in Kentucky – the first in Louisville on Jan. 23, and another in Frankfort on Feb. 1.

Christians agree that it is an imperative time to push the pro-life movement in the South. According to statistics provided by the Kentucky Right to Life organization, in the month of December an estimated 284 abortions were performed at Kentucky’s largest abortion clinic in Louisville, the EMW Women’s Surgical Center. This brings the annual total abortions to 3,651 for Kentucky’s largest abortion clinic.

According to statistics provided by the Guttmacher Institute, 1.21 million abortions were performed in the United States in 2008, the most recent year for which data was available.
