Southern Baptists On-Scene At Charley’s Wake

Christian volunteers from across the nation gathered in Florida this week despite the hot weather and lack of water, to help the victims of Hurricane Charley get their lives back on track.

According to Mickey Caison, manager of the Disaster Operations Center at the North American Mission Board, nearly 800 Southern Baptist volunteers from across the country traveled to the Sunny state and began preparing tens of thousands of meals, cleared out debris from the streets and helped residents rebuild their broken homes.

In addition to the humanitarian efforts, Christian groups were providing spiritual comfort through prayers and thanksgiving.

"I believe God is truly being glorified by the words and actions of Southern Baptist disaster relief volunteers serving sacrificially throughout central and southwest Florida," Caison said to the Southern Baptists’ BP news.

Other denominations that have members on-scene include the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, the Assemblies of God, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
