'Space Jam 2' a LeBron James Movie; Justin Lin Writing Script, No Release Date Yet
After many years of waiting, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as it has been confirmed that the sequel for "Space Jam" is on the way and it will star none other than LeBron James.
As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Lin, who is very well known for his work with the "Fast and Furious" franchise, is already writing the script along with Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello.
Though there have been numerous rumors about the said sequel ever since Michael Jordan starred in the first hit installment, the speculations grew stronger as James signed a contract with Warner Bros.
Lin is very busy these days with various projects, including one that he is working on with Botello, but it appears that he is giving time to the hit franchise that saw basketball's greatest player as he teamed up with several Looney Tunes characters in the first film.
Meanwhile, Forbes notes that the problem in helming such a project is putting together other stars who will shoot alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers player. Jordan's 1996 release, he starred with Charles Barkley, Larry Johnson, and Shawn Bradley among others.
The magazine suggests that some of this generation's most prominent basketball players should be involved in the story. One is Stephen Curry, who is obviously the most adored NBA star these days, and another is internationally acclaimed Jeremy Lin, who may not be as great as James nor Curry but has the biggest appeal to the second largest film market in the entire world: China.
There are some other possibilities but it should be noted that it has not been officially confirmed if the sequel will follow after the Jordan's '96 storyline. Cosmopolitan also reports that production is still in its very early stages so there are not too many details that fans can chew on at the moment.
Warner Bros. has not yet announced when "Space Jam 2" will be released.
