NEW YORK – A special screening of The End of the Spear celebrated the 50th anniversary of the death of five missionaries who heroically established contact with the Waodani people and in the end were speared.

On Jan. 5, at AMC Theaters Empire 25 in New York City’s Times Square, the cast and production crew joined hundreds of pastors and ministry leaders. Meanwhile, other screenings took place throughout the United States. The film will hit theaters officially on Jan. 20.

“This is something that appeals to all of humanity,” said Marc Harper, who is marketing the movie, produced by Every Tribe Entertainment.

Based on a true story, "End of the Spear" tells the account of five missionaries who were killed in 1956 by members of the Waodani, who live in the eastern rainforest of Ecuador and were known for being one of the most violent societies in the world. That changed, however, after family members of one of the slain missionaries went back to the Amazon to share the gospel. The women and children of Nate Saint's family modeled forgiveness and the tribe changed. The introduction of the gospel had decreased the homicide rate by 90 percent.

“We've got to rally the people that we know that can be impacted by this film to see this film,” Harper said.

Pastors and ministry leaders can attend special events to be held this week throughout the country.
