'Spider-Man' Cast News: Captain America And Iron Man To Feature in Solo Movie?

Robert Downey, Jr. may have accidentally revealed a couple of important cameos in the upcoming Marvel Studios' film "Spider-Man."

The actor, along with Chris Evans, introduced the record-breaking first trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" last week on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." While promoting the film, Downey spoke about shooting in humid Atlanta, dealing with the July heat, and having his own furniture from home shipped there as they shot the film. He then told Evans, "We are going to shoot in Atlanta again, you and I."

Which film was he talking about? Though the obvious answer may be "Avengers: Infinity War," that movie is set to be released in May 2018, which means that it may be too early to begin production on the film. The only Marvel Studios' movies currently set to film in Atlanta are "Spider-Man" and the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel.

But "Guardians" director James Gunn is reportedly adamant on keeping Star-Lord and his crew separate, at least for now, from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2014, he spoke about how the success of "Guardians of the Galaxy" will influence Phase 3 of the MCU, saying, "Who knows how much we've influenced Phase 3, but I think the one thing is that the Guardians aren't backseat to the Avengers." He added: "Captain America, Thor, those other movies, they really do support the Avengers and they do take a back seat to the Avengers in a certain way. The Guardians are their own thing, their own film."

It is also worth noting that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced in February that Sony Pictures and Marvel were discussing opportunities to integrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters into future Spider-Man fims. With a mid-2017 release set for the stand-alone film, "Spider-Man" does seem to fit the bill, especially after Sony allowed Marvel to include Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War."

But does this mean that Spider-Man will reciprocate by including the Avengers in his upcoming film?

Unfortunately, not much is known about the "Spider-Man" story yet, so fans will have to wait a little longer to find out if Captain America and Iron Man will be in the film.

"Spider-Man" is set to be released on July 28, 2017.
