'Spider-Man' Casting Rumors: It's Down to 2 Final Candidates
The past week, the rumor mills were saying that the list was down to five young actors. This week, it's down to the final two candidates -- Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland. An insider report claims that only two candidates are being considered for the role of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This report has yet to be confirmed by Marvel and Sony. Both actors however fit the mold that both Marvel and Sony are looking at for the new Spider-Man. Both are 18 year-old actors and will be able to play a teen-aged and younger Spider-Man in the upcoming "Avengers" Marvel movies and the next live-action remake of Spider-Man, according to Cinema Blend. Both also look young enough to continue playing the role in the next few years or so.
Butterfield and Holland were also included in the rumored shortlist of five young actors last week. There is no indication who the studios prefer at this point.
Butterfield is known for his most recent work in "Ender's Game." He also had roles in "Hugo," "Nanny McPhee Returns," and the upcoming "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." Butterfield is said to have the most "blockbuster" career among the initial contenders, which qualifies him to play a superhero.
Holland on the other hand is best known for his role in "The Impossible," where he earned many award nominations, according to the report. He is also a part of "How I Live Now" and "In The Heart Of The Sea," which also stars Chris Hemsworth.
Marvel and Sony needs to find their Spider-Man soon, as the Web-Slinger is due to make an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016 and have his own solo film in July 2017. If the rumor is true, fans may find out soon who will be the next Peter Parker.
