'Spider-Man' Game Launch Is Happening This Year

One of the developers has revealed that the anticipated "Spider-Man" video game for PlayStation 4 will be launched this year.

Marvel's Digital Media Group vice president and executive director Ryan Penagos recently made a live stream appearance where he casually spilled that the upcoming "Spider-Man" video game will arrive this year.

The upcoming "Spider-Man" game is a collaborative work of Insomniac Games and Marvel.

The snippet of the live stream video was spotted by Reddit user GamingSince95 and was subsequently shared on the said social news aggregation site.

In the video, it was pointed out that Marvel games "are booming" to which Penagos agreed.

He then added that there are more Marvel games to come this year, saying, "There's even more on the horizon for 2017 like 'Spider-Man' coming to PlayStation 4 and 'Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite' coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC."

The revelation is a bit of a surprise for some fans since the game is not expected to arrive until 2018, considering that it was only announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2016. However, it can also be recalled that Insomniac Games was quick to clarify that and dismissed the said rumor.

In a Twitter reply to a fan, the studio stated: "Who said it was 2 years away? Just stay tuned. We're still working on it and can narrow it down closer." So it is possible that 2017 has always been the target release schedule for the newest "Spider-Man" game and the developers just want to make sure the title is close to being flawless before making any official announcements. Back in September 2016, the "Spider-Man" video game was one of the titles put up for a demonstration to showcase the power of the then newly launched PlayStation 4 Pro. During the said event, it was confirmed that the upcoming game will feature an open world setting that will maximize the 4K and high-dynamic range display capacities of the PS4 Pro.

The demo sparked speculations that the game will be released exclusively for PS4 Pro, which were immediately dismissed by Insomniac Games through another post on Twitter. They have clarified that the game will work on the standard PS4 as well.
