'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Movie News: Iron Man to Mentor Spider-Man?
Spider-Man's entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via his upcoming standalone film feature "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is getting a major support from another Marvel superhero. After the trailer of "Captain America: Civil War" shows that the web-spurting and slinging superhero takes the side of Iron Man in his battle against Captain America, the iron-clad hero is returning the favor as he is set to join the cast of "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
In his interview in the past months, Robert Downey, Jr. revealed that there was no solo "Iron Man" movie in sight. Since then, various speculations involving the character that he portrayed for three standalone blockbuster movies started to surface.
One of the loudest speculations that surfaced when Downey confirmed that Marvel no longer have any plan of producing "Iron Man 4" was that his Tony Stark/Iron Man character would just serve as a mentor to the next Iron Man. The rumor also pointed to child actor Ty Simpkins, who served as Tony Stark's sidekick in "Iron Man 3," as the next Iron Man who Downey's Tony Stark will mentor.

As Simpkins is only 14 years old as of this writing, it is apparent that he is too young to play the role at this point in time. However, with initial reports claiming that Marvel is planning to make another solo "Iron Man" movie for a 2019 release, then, it can be very possible that Marvel may be, indeed, waiting for Simpkins until he is ripe enough for the role of the new Iron Man as mentored by Downey, Jr.'s Tony Stark.
With this, some people can only wonder if Downey's inclusion in the upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will kick off his mentoring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is not certain, though, if Downey's inclusion in Tom Holland's "Spider-Man" movie is only a one time deal, or if the contract requires him to appear in the subsequent sequels of the movie.
