Sinister Six Release Date Set for November 2016, Amazing Spider-Man Delayed to May 2018
"The Amazing Spider-Man" starring Andrew Garfield is to get a third installment sometime in 2018, some say on May 4. Originally, there were supposed to be four "The Amazing Spider-Man" films, but it seems that the actual third title was pushed up the time table to make way for the "Sinister Six" coming Nov. 11, 2016.
"The Sinister Six" won't be an actual sequel but is a spin-off from the main franchise created by writer and director Drew Goddard. The announcement by Sony/Columbia Pictures was made a month ago, following a series of rumors that the spin-off movie was getting cancelled.
Goddard had stepped down as the forerunner for Marvel's "Daredevil" series to concentrate more on the "Sinister Six's" development. It seems that everything is going well for the production team, especially with the scheduled Nov. 11 release date. It also would look that the film will be premiered before Warner Bros. releases the Harry Potter spin-off, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
There are lingering questions about the premiere of the "Sinister Six" film as well as the pushing of the third "Amazing Spider-Man" title to 2018. Garfield, who plays as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the first two films, has only signed a contract for three Spider-Man films. Obviously, the "Amazing Spider-Man 3" will be the third film in the contract. Who then will be playing as Spider-Man in "Sinister Six?"
Then there's also the mystery of who will be playing as the six Spider-Man villains in the film. Paul Giamatti has already filled the role of Rhino who appears at the end of the second Amazing Spider-Man film. Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin will also be making his return to the "Sinister Six" film.
If Garfield's contract only allows him to be featured on only three Spider-Man films, then it could mean that the "Sinister Six" won't be getting Garfield as Spider-Man.
