St. Louis Cardinals Interested in Jose Quintana

Jose Quintana is already scheduled to start for the Chicago White Sox on opening day, but the trade rumors are not going to stop popping up just because he will be pitching on Monday. Everyone has probably heard of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros' interest in Quintana by now, but a new team has entered the fray.

According to FanRagSports' Jon Heyman, St. Louis Cardinals have joined the mix as a potential landing spot for Quintana.

"While the belief now is that Quintana won't be traded until closer to the trade deadline, the Cardinals could be a sleeper team for Quintana. Word is, they have quietly shown interest in the White Sox pitching ace, and the Cardinals have the combination of young players and prospects to make it work," Heyman said in his report.

"St. Louis has drafted and developed well, and their stockpile of young players is decent. After the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years, it is possible St. Louis may also have extra incentive to make a statement," he continued.

The White Sox are going to ask for a lot in return for Quintana, that much is clear. But the Cardinals do have a lot of assets, so that shouldn't be a problem. MLB Daily Dish's Nick Mensio has suggested that the Cardinals may be forced to make the move if Michael Wacha's shoulder continues to bother him.

According to CBS Sports' Dayn Perry, the Cardinals may include catcher prospect Carson Kelly and outfielder Harrison Bader in a package for Quintana. Of course, that will not be enough to convince the White Sox to part with Quintana, so they will have to add more pieces. Perry has suggested adding a pitcher or two as well to make the deal work.

Right now, Quintana is not paying attention to the trade rumors. But he will have to leave Chicago eventually and he knows that.
