Stacey Dash Receives Death Threats Over Mitt Romney Endorsement
'My Humble Opinion,' Actress Tweeted
"Clueless" actress Stacey Dash received a torrent of abuse via social networking site Twitter recently over her public endorsement of Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.
The 46-year-old, who is said to be a mixture of African American, Mexican and Bajan descent, advised her 200,000 Twitter followers to "Vote for Romney" on Oct. 7, which prompted a series of vicious attacks. Some critics accused Dash of race hate while others suggested that the actress deserved to die.
"Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future. @MittRomney @TeamRomney #mittromney #VOTE #voteromney," Dash tweeted on Sunday.
Hoards of Twitter users immediately responded to Dash's tweet and while some were supportive, others were not.
"Stacey Dash gotta die," one outraged Twitter user wrote.
"So Stacey Dash endorsing Money Mitt huh? ... #ObamaOrDie," one user wrote.
Evidently stunned by the responses, Dash quickly defended her tweet by explaining that she is "entitled" to an opinion.
"My humble opinion... EVERYONE is entitled to one," Dash later tweeted.
A number of critics discussed race and accused Dash of shunning her African-American heritage.
"Wait stacey dash is voting for romney? you get a lil money and you forget that you're black and a woman. two things romney hates," one tweet read.
"You're an unemployed black woman endorsing @MittRomney. You're voting against yourself thrice. You poor beautiful idiot," another user wrote.
This is the second time in recent weeks that a high profile African-American woman has received death threats for endorsing Romney, who is the Republican nominee.
In September, rapper Nicki Minaj stunned her predominately African-American fan base when she appeared to endorse Romney and slam President Barack Obama as being "lazy" in a song. With the help of President Obama, it was later revealed that she was joking.
"Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do... *sends love & support* @BarackObama," Minaj tweeted.
