Stan Lee Biopic: Leonardo DiCaprio Wants Role and Marvel Legend Approves
Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio wants to play Stan Lee in his biopic. The Marvel legend, who gave the world superheroes like The Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the X-Men, is aware that the A-list Hollywood star wants the role.
There isn't a straight biopic being made about Lee for now, though. But should it happen, then DiCaprio wants the part. Lee told a panel at toy maker Hasbro's very first convention over the weekend that he's had discussions about it with the actor.
"He's a neighbor of mine and we were talking one day some months ago," Lee shared. "He said, 'Boy it'd be fun to do your story on the screen.' So I said, 'Well, I'll audition you.' Got to make sure the guy can do it," Lee said in amusement.
Lee also revealed that DiCaprio is a big fan of Marvel and hangs a bunch of superhero posters around his house.
Last year, Twentieth Century Fox bought the rights to Lee's life story. The plan was to develop a period movie based on the comic book creator. It won't be an actual biopic but an action-adventure romper which places Lee as the central character.
"Twilight" producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey were tapped as producers for the said project but no writers and actors have been attached since the project was announced. Plans for this movie could still change over time.
Lee grew up in a poor community in the Bronx in the 1920's. He got his first taste of comic book publishing at 17 when he worked for Timely Comics. Lee was about 40-years-old when he created his first superheroes, The Fantastic Four. He formed Marvel and then moved to Hollywood to pitch his stories to the studios.
At 94-years-old, Lee is still very much an active part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. Fans all over the world recognize him for doing cameos in the films based on his comic book creations.
