The next movie will find the starship Enterprise and its crew finally on its five year mission through space. Another report said that the sequel is also noted for trying to "remove its Star Trek-y-ness," which was noted when the original script was handed over to Simon Pegg to rewrite.

Fans are finally going to see space, the final frontier. This is what people have been asking for in the previous films: seeing Captain Kirk and his crew "pushing against the very boundaries of the known universe, encountering strange new worlds and people." This is what the Enterprise was built for.

Production is set to begin soon, with a release date barely over a year away, on July 8, 2016. As the script is being worked up into shape, the film cannot be delayed as 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the "Star Trek" franchise.

The film will bringing back Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Leonard Nemoy, as well as other cast members Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg (who is also the screenwriter) and John Cho. Among the stars being eyed to play the new villains are Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella of "Kingman: The Secret Service."
