'Star Trek Beyond' Officially Wrapped Production, Sequel Plot Still Unknown

No doubt that avid fans of "Star Trek" have something to be excited about this coming summer as the sequel to "Star Trek Beyond" has finished production already. According to Collider, the follow up of "Star Trek Into Darkness" is now in the can, which means director Justin Lin will be busy for the next eight months going into the post-production stage in order to put the pieces together and bring the new sequel.

As Screen Crush described, "Star Trek Beyond" didn't go through a smooth flowing journey prior to production. It was a bumpy road for Lin, who took over the director's chair after J.J. Abrams left the franchise to helm the upcoming "Star Wars" film, and Simon Pegg who has been multi-tasking as actor and co-screenwriter for the sequel. But fast forward to today, it's apparent that the two have done a great job especially now that they have wrapped production.

Pegg announced the final day of filming through posting on Twitter a photo of him along with co-writer Doug Jung. And fans who saw the photo found the humor in the image as Pegg obviously wore the wrong hat to the set, which had a "Star Wars" print on it. Source say that during a press conference in Dubai that happened earlier this year, Pegg revealed that he and Jung wrote the screenplay with a blank page.

"There was a script being developed by Bob Orci but Doug Jung and I never saw it, or were told anything about it. We started with a blank page in January and built the story from the ground up with Justin Lin and our producers at Bad Robot," said Pegg.

Until now, the plot of "Star Trek Beyond" has not been revealed and the curiosity of the fans are growing stronger. Pegg only hinted that fans can expect the new sequel to be more in line with the audacious spirit of the classic TV series. He also said that he has written an original villain role for Idris Elba.

Joining Elba in the cast are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and John Cho. Newcomer Sofia Boutella will also grace the film. "Star Trek Beyond" is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 22, 2016.
