It is also to be noted that Martin-Green was first announced to play Lieutenant Commander Rainsford in "Star Trek: Discovery." That is both a change in the name and the rank.

Although she remains tight-lipped about her character, Martin-Green, fresh from her five-season stint as Sasha in "The Walking Dead," treated fans with morsels of details about "Star Trek: Discovery" in an interview with TVLine.
She said that this new series will offer "a different take" from the ones that fans were used to seeing in the "Star Trek" canon.
"It's going to be bigger, rawer and grittier ... and the story's going to build on itself. It's going to be a tremendous journey," Martin-Green teased.
"Since Star Trek has always been through the eyes of the captain, to be coming from [his second-in-command's] mindset is going to be refreshing and challenging in ways that are very thrilling," she went on to say.
"Star Trek: Discovery" will premiere on CBS later this year.
