The Star Trek sequel is being directed and produced by JJ Abrams, and will be in 3D.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin and Zoe Saldana are set to star in the movie in a follow-up to their 2009 blockbuster.

The new date, although disappointing to fans due to its delay, will also excite them as it is the special release date just prior to Memorial Day, and is reserved for some of the most popular and special movies of the year usually.

The last Star Trek movie had a budget of $150 million, and grossed $257.7 million domestically and a further $127.9 million internationally.
